The Mcfarlane music figures series was started with the first series of KISS action figures. During the late 1990's, Mcfarlane continued to expand their Mcfarlane music figures lines to include more KISS action figures, the Beatles figures, Angus Young, Jerry Garcia, Jim Morrison, Metallica and others.
Although the early years of the Mcfarlane music figures was dominated by KISS, in recent years, the most prolific Mcfarlane music action figures have been the Mcfarlane Elvis figures. In each of the past 4 years, Mcfarlane Toys has released at least two new Elvis action figures with no sign of slowing down. In 2004, a Jon Bon Jovi action figure also proved to be a huge addition to the Mcfarlane music figures line.
