Mcfarlane Toys Adds Some Surprises to 2008 Guitar Hero Action Figures!

To the delight of action figure collectors everywhere, Mcfarlane Toys made some last minute changes to their first series of Guitar Hero action figures. The first 2008 series was originally scheduled to include one action figure of four different avatars from the Guitar Hero video game. The fictional rockers that made the cut for the first series Guitar Hero figures series were Axel Steel, God of Rock, Johnny Napalm and Lars Umlaut.

Just before the October 2008 release of the Guitar Hero figures, Mcfarlane Toys added a number of new paint variants to the series. These additional action figures utilized the same sculpts of the figures with new paint on each figure. By far, the Johnny Napalm skeleton figure has garnered the most attention from collectors of the Guitar Hero figures. Coincidentally, this is also the Guitar Hero figure with the most drastic change in the paint from the original figure of the same character. The Johnny Napalm skeleton figure still rocks Johnny’s signature mohawk, but he is completely plastered with paint and bones in true rock star fashion.

Although the changes to the other Guitar Hero action figures were not as drastic as the Johnny Napalm figure, collectors will love the variety. Mcfarlane Toys even makes a shameless promotional plug for their company by repainting the Axel Steel action figure into a SPAWN t-shirt. SPAWN is Mcfarlane Toys original comic creation from Todd Mcfarlane that was the springboard to launch Mcfarlane Toys into the action figure giant that they are today.

Action figure collectors should also keep their eyes out for the white toga variant of the God of Rock action figure and the blonde hair variant of the Guitar Hero Lars Umlaut figure.

It appears that Mcfarlane Toys plans to continue to aggressively expand their Guitar Hero action figures series. Up next… some new Guitar Hero figures including the former Guns N Roses guitarist and legenday rocker, Slash.
